ORION SMART POWER

Pennsylvania

Though the Keystone State experiences fewer days of sunshine than the national average each year, it is taking steps to make sure that it makes the most of its solar potential. Currently, there are 786.7 MW of solar energy generated through existing systems in Pennsylvania, enough to power nearly one hundred thousand homes. With continued installation and investment in renewable sources over the next five years, it is estimated that 1,306 MW of solar energy will be produced on an annual basis across the state. While currently, only 4% of electricity generation comes from renewable sources, policies and incentives have been put into place in order to move even more people away from fossil fuels and toward renewables like solar power.

Available Solar Incentives Pennsylvania

Incentives help lower the cost of your solar energy system. Those available in Pennsylvania include:

  • Solar Tax Credit: Most solar energy installations are eligible for the Residential Clean Energy Credit, previously called the Solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC). Eligible homeowners can deduct up to 30% of their solar power system’s costs from their total tax liability for the year of installation.

  • Solar Renewable Energy Certificates (SRECs):  SRECs are the non-tangible “certificate” of proof solar energy was generated. 1 SREC is equal to 1,000 kWh of electricity. Solar panel owners can sell SRECs on the market similar to stocks. If you choose Palmetto as your solar installer, we can help you sign up with SREC Trade, our partner and national brokerage firm, to sell your SRECs.

  • Local Utility Rebates: Some local utilities may offer solar rebate programs to offset the cost of your renewable energy system even further.
